Replacing damaged or missing metal covers

An illustrative selection scenario for rusted, perforated or missing metal access covers. Review a replacement cover, frame and access arrangement with NA-ME.

The problem to address

A damaged metal cover may have local perforation or a weakened seating edge; another location may have a missing cover after theft. First secure the opening under the site procedure. For permanent replacement, inspect the frame and chamber surround and define traffic and maintenance access. The supplied illustration compares a deteriorated metal cover with a composite alternative; it does not document a completed installation.

A solution to evaluate

Evaluate a NA-ME composite cover-and-frame assembly with a suitable securing or locking arrangement. The composite body has low metal-scrap value compared with a metal cover, which may reduce the incentive for scrap theft. Treat that as one selection factor, alongside frame compatibility and practical access control.

  • Record the clear opening, external frame dimensions, seating depth and condition of the chamber surround; confirm whether the frame also needs replacement.
  • Describe the exact installation location and expected vehicles. Confirm the required load class under the project specification and local authority requirements.
  • Agree the locking or restraint method, authorised opening tools and maintenance access procedure; check the security of the frame and fixings.
  • Check the required walking surface, handling method, chemical and temperature exposure, and any separate sealing requirement.

Technical limits and verification

Low metal-scrap value does not guarantee theft prevention. Metal hardware, the frame and the locking arrangement still need review, and the installation requires inspection and controlled access.

Where EN 124 is specified, request evidence for the exact assembly and the relevant general and material-specific parts. A class designation is not a vehicle-weight allowance, and this scenario does not claim blanket certification, watertightness or a measured reduction in theft.

Discuss this application

Send NA-ME the opening and frame measurements, site photographs, traffic description and security requirements. Include quantities and destination to request a replacement proposal with the cover, frame and access arrangement identified.
