Good installation begins with a coordinated panel and support layout. This guide organises the information and checks to resolve before site work; the selected product’s instructions and the project design determine the actual installation details.
Confirm the design before cutting
Start with the approved panel schedule and supporting structure. Identify product codes, heights, mesh, surfaces, finished dimensions and any direction that must be maintained. Record clear spans, bearing locations and panel joints. A catalogue panel size is not a span recommendation, so do not use it to decide where supports may be omitted.
Mark access hatches, pipe penetrations and other cut-outs before finalising the layout. They may interrupt the intended load path or leave narrow portions that need a revised detail. Agree these with the responsible designer rather than treating them as routine site adjustments. Also check the practical size of removable panels and the space needed to handle them. A layout that looks efficient on a plan may be difficult to maintain if panels cannot be safely lifted from their installed position.
Check the supporting structure and delivery
Compare the actual support positions and levels with the design before panels are installed. Record discrepancies and resolve them through the project process. Do not force a panel into an opening or use unapproved packing to compensate for a mismatch. Supports should provide the intended bearing and allow the specified fixing arrangement to be installed and inspected.
On receipt, identify panels against the schedule and check for transport damage or missing components. Keep product identification available during installation so a similar-looking panel is not used in the wrong location. Plan storage and handling in accordance with the supplier’s instructions, taking account of panel size and surface. If damage is found, separate the affected item for assessment rather than assuming it is cosmetic or concealing it beneath a fixing.

Plan fabrication and control dust
Where site cutting or drilling is necessary, obtain the method and compatible finishing requirements for the selected product. Use appropriate tooling and a work arrangement that supports the panel during fabrication. GRP machining creates dust, so the task should be covered by the site’s exposure-control and protective-equipment arrangements. This guide does not replace a task-specific risk assessment or the material safety information.
Mark cuts carefully against the schedule and check their effect on support and fixings before machining. Keep the work area organised so offcuts and dust do not contaminate access routes. Agree how cut edges, drilled holes and abrasions are to be finished; a supplier-recommended resin or compatible coating may be required for the product and environment. Do not substitute a generic paint merely because its colour matches. Allow any applied treatment to reach the required condition before installation or service.
Install the specified fixing assembly
Match the upper clip, fastener and lower component to the grating and support detail. Confirm the material grade or finish for the environment. Access from below, support flange geometry and maintenance removal all affect the practical choice. A connector joining adjacent panels should not be assumed to provide the same function as a hold-down connection to the supporting structure.
Use the project-specific fixing layout and tightening instruction. No universal clip quantity, spacing or torque is given here because those values depend on the selected assembly and design. Over-tightening can damage composite contact areas; inadequate restraint can permit movement. If a fixing cannot be installed as drawn, resolve the detail rather than omitting it. Include corners, cut panels and removable access sections in the check, since these locations are easy to overlook when counting only standard full panels.
Inspect the completed walking surface
Before opening the area, check that panels correspond to the layout and are properly seated and restrained. Look for damage, incomplete edge treatment, loose components and unexpected movement. Review joints and transitions for changes in level or openings that differ from the design. Clear fabrication debris, packaging and contaminants from the walking surface and the space below where relevant.
Confirm that access panels can be removed and reinstated using the planned method. Record any restrictions on use until outstanding work is complete. A general appearance check does not demonstrate load capacity, so retain the design and product records behind the installation. If the site has made changes, update the documents to reflect the accepted final arrangement. The maintenance team needs the installed layout, not an early drawing that no longer shows the support or fixing positions.
Handover and future changes
Provide product identification, the accepted panel layout, fixing information and the supplier’s care instructions. Explain how to report damage and where replacement information is kept. Inspection and cleaning should reflect the actual environment and use; a universal interval would ignore differences between a lightly used dry route and a wet industrial platform.
Treat later openings, equipment loads and support changes as design changes. A new pipe penetration or relocated machine can alter an otherwise satisfactory arrangement. For a NA-ME enquiry, send the planned dimensions, support sections, cut-outs, access requirements and exposure together with quantity and destination. Ask for the product-specific installation and fixing information needed by your project team. Manufacturer fabrication resources illustrate the importance of coordinated details, but another manufacturer’s numerical instructions should not be copied onto an unspecified NA-ME assembly.
